Good afternoon, dears. I’m glad to interpret my teaching design here. I will explain the lesson from the following aspecs.
Firstly, let’s focus on the analysis of teaching content.
The teaching content is part one of unit 3 of Yilin Primary English Book 9. This unit is mainly about describing the appearance of the animals through some riddles.
Secondly, it is about the students.
Our students are in grade 5. They are active and curious, interested in new things. After learning English for 2 years, they have some basic English background knowledge. So the teacher should attatch importance to the communication with them, providing them the chances of using language.They have already known some of the body parts in grade 4. It is not difficult for them to understand and use ”They have….” and “It has….” to describe the appearance of the animals.
So, I set the following aims.
a. By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to read, recognize and use these words and phrases: the other, body, leg, arm and tail and these sentences: They have…. It has….
b. By the end of the lesson, Ss can understand the story time and get useful information from it through attentive listening and reading.
c. By the end of the lesson, Ss are able to describe their animal friends.
d. In this lesson, the emotional aim is to help ss to recognize that animals are our good friends and we should not hurt them.
The main point of this lesson is:
To make sure that Ss can use the third person singular correctly and skillfully.
To develop Ss’ interest in English.
The difficult point is the usage of the third person singular.
Fourthly, it talks about teaching methods.
In this lesson, I will mainly use “Task-based teaching method”, “Communicative language teaching method” and “TPR teaching method” and so on.
Next, let’s focus on the teaching procedures.
I will finish this lesson in 5 steps.
Step1.Warming-up.
1. Sing a song about body parts.
2. Greetings and free talk.
Purpose:
The purpose of this part is to form a better English surrounding for the Ss. At the same time, it provides situations to review the learnt knowledge for the next step.
Step2.Pre-task.
Present the new words and sentences.
1. Play a guessing game.
e.g.: I have a friend. She/He has….
Guess who she/he is.
Teach: body, leg, arm, tail
They have…. It has….
2. I say you draw(pair work).
Purpose:
The purpose of this part is to present the new words and sentences in the situation, which relates to the Ss’ real life experiences, to help the Ss understand the language easily and naturally. After the guessing game, the Ss are supposed to play another game ”I say you draw” to consolidate the new words and sentences.
Step3.Task 1.
Watch the cartoon and read the text.
1.Watch the cartoon.
2.Teach the new phrase “the other”.
a. Give example.

One is… and the other is….
b. Ss practice in pairs.
3.Read after the tape.
Purpose:
The purpose of this part is to enable the Ss to have a good understanding of the text.
Step4.Task 2.
Consolidation
1.Fill in the table according to the text.
Whose Appearance
(外貌) Can Name of the
animal
2.According to the table describe the animals in the ss’ own words.
Purpose:
The purpose of this part is to help the Ss understand and grasp the text better.
Step5.Development.
Discuss and write a post flyer to look for their lost pets in groups of 4.
Purpose:
The purpose of this part is to develop Ss’ ability of communication, and also, their ability of cooperation will be developed.
