Lesson plan presentation
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, it`s my great pleasure to stand here to give the presentation of my lesson plan. The lesson I am going to talk about is from NSECbook1, unit 1 friendship, the reading part: Anne`s best friend. Now I will present how to teach and why to teach so from the following aspects: the analysis of teaching material and learning condition, teaching objectives, important focuses and difficult focuses; teaching methods and studying ways; theoretical basis; teaching procedure; blackboard design.
Analysis of teaching material and learning condition
Now, first let`s come to the analysis of teaching material and learning condition.
1)From the title of the reading material, we can know the main topic is about the friendship, while the friendship is very special, not only because it occurred between a person and a dairy, but also it happened during the WWII. So I will add more information about the background to make it easier for my students to understand Anne.
2)The reading material is quiet longer than they learn during the junior school, and I divide it into two parts. The first is about the narration of the friendship between Anne and kitty (the name of diary which is given by Anne), while the second part is a letter from Anne to kitty. Though there are also many new vocabulary and expressions, the topic is very familiar to my students. So it would not so difficulty for their comprehension.
3) Since my students have just come from different junior school, so it is very important for them to make friends in the new school, so this friendship reading material is very meaningful, and my students will also have greater motivation and interest to learn it.
4)As for my students, they have already accumulate a certain amounts of words and sentence structure, so it is possible for them to communicate and express their ideas. May be they will shy to do so, and I will offer a free environment for them.
Teaching objectives, important focuses and difficult focuses
Based on my mentioned teaching material and learning condition, I set following teaching objective, important and difficult focuses.
Language skills objectives: since this period is mainly the reading course, so the main skill to develop is reading ability. Through fast reading, students can find the answer quickly and correctly; through careful reading, they will find the key word and amylase it. This point is very important but may be difficult for them. At the same time, students will also involved into discussion, so their speaking ability would also developed.
Language knowledge objectives: my students will master the meaning and use of important new words and expressions, such as: go through; outdoors, on purpose …; since the second part of the reading material is a letter, so students will distinguish the different form between the English letter and Chinese letter and know how to write an English letter. This point is also important, but will not so difficult for them.
Affective objectives: since the topic is about friend , students will realize the importance to make friend and to know how can we win a true friendship; since the story happened during the war time , students will love the peace, and cherish our today`s peaceful life. In the letter, Anne shows her eager to the nature, my students will concern themselves to the nature to enjoy the beauty of nature.
Cultural objectives: students will know more about the history of WWII, while learning the cause of the war, my students will realize that we should respect others` culture, we should live together harmoniously.
Learning strategy objectives: students will search the Internet to learn about Anne`s daily, during the communication, they will have a further understand of the friend and friendship.
Teaching methods and studying ways: As for the analysis of the reading material, I will mainly apply the top-down approach. After wholly comprehension, students will go to details for better understanding. Of course, my students will also communicate with each to express their ideas. So it is also a good way for them to understand with each other, and try to make friends during the communication, which is to use what they learned in the textbook into reality.
Theoretical basis: according to the new curriculum for English teaching, students should be the center, so in my class, I will only act as the leader and organizer ,and respect individual difference , during the class, I will offer a free environment to learn and encourage them to express.
Teaching procedure
Now let`s come to the most important part of my today`s presentation, teaching procedure. I mainly apply the three stages models, and set the following steps: lead-in; pre-reading, while reading, post reading, homework
Lead-in: (8mins)
Activity1: first I will present my friends and, with showing the pictures, introduce what we usually do together, so then I will ask students to introduce their fiends and what they do together. This activity will successfully attract students to the class and to describe their fiends
Activity2: I will offer a clip of film “cave life’’, while before the enjoying the film, I will ask to who was the man`s friends, why he would make friend with it? Since the film is about a story a man make friends with a football, when he was alone on the island. The film will not only arouse the students` interest to learn, but also because it is similar to the reading material , so it would help them to better understand the text
Pre-reading (2mins) who was the friend of Anne? Through predication, students `eager to check their predication will help them to read efficiently.
While reading (25mins)
Activity 1: through fast reading, check their predication, and answer the true –false questions. Students will not only got the wholly understanding of the passage, but also through the scanning, the will focus on the specific information.
Activity 2: close reading
1) Read the first paragraph, and I will ask” why Anne made friends with a diary” ,then students will discuss why we need friend , what a good friends should be like. By dong so, students will realize the importance of making friends in our daily life, and know how to distinguish a friend.
2) Reading the second paragraph, I will ask students” why have Anne to hide, how long had she hide”, since from the text, students `answer will mentioned “ German”, “WWII” so I will offer more information about the history about this period for them to better understand. So during the part ,my cultural objectives and part of affective objectives will be realized.
3) Now let`s come to the second part of the reading material. First, students will find the difference of the English letter and Chinese letter, then read the whole letter and find a key word , that is “nature”,
4) Since the center of the letter is “nature”, and the author use the comparison skill to describe it “before hiding”, “during the hiding time”. So students will find out the words , how the author offers us a beautiful picture of nature; then read the second which offers us two examples of her experience to the nature, so students will summarize it, and find out the construct words to the first paragraph. Through such careful analysis, students will know how Anne organize her letter, which they can apply into their later writing.
5) Find the key sentence of this letter, which is the last sentence” nature is one thing that really must be experience”. So my students will realize the value of free and we should concern ourselves to the nature, and enjoy the beauty of nature. By doing so, the affective objectives will be realized.
Post reading (8mins)
Discuss: Image that we have to hide like Anne and her family. What would you miss most with the reason. Through the discussion, students will further understand the text and the felling of Anne, which will make their emotion to the free and peaceful life stronger.
Homework:(1mins)
Act as kitty ,write a letter to Anne to encourage her .
