Teaching methods: Situation teaching.
Teaching steps:
Step 1 A leaflet
Pat is writing a leaflet. Look at the picture and help her. Fill in the blanks.
1. Show Transparency. Explain that Pat is writing a leaflet describing a shopping mall. Ask them to look at the picture and read the sentences.
2. Tell the pupils that they have to help Pat by filling in the blanks in her leaflet. Ask them to look carefully at the picture from which they can find the answers.
3. Play the tape for the pupils to check their own answers.
4. Ask the pupils to read the sentences aloud and then check the answers with the class.
Step 2 Read and write
1. Show transparency. Tell the pupils to look at the fridge and the cupboard in the picture. Explain that the mother is asking her children what they want to eat for lunch.
2. Tell them to read the conversation and then fill in the blanks according to what they see in the picture, using the words given in the box.
3. Play the tape for them to check their own answers.
Step 3 Guess
1. Show Transparency. Tell the pupils to look at the picture and choose a child.
2. In pairs, the pupils ask and answer questions about what the child has in their fridge and cupboard, Then they try to guess who the child is.
3. Ask them to take turns asking and answering questions.
Step 4 Listen and circle
1. Play the tape. Show Transparency. Explain that Pat’s mother is talking with Pat about what they’re going to do for Chinese New Year.
2. Tell them to listen to the tape and circle the correct pictures according to the conversation.
3. Use Transparency to check the pupils’ answers.
