Good morning, everyone. I’m ***, comes from ….. It’s my honor to present my lesson plan here.
There’re four parts in my lesson plan presentation. Firstly, I’ll talk sth according to the teaching material and learning condition. Secondly, I’ll talk about the teaching method and the teaching aids. Thirdly is the teaching procedure. And the last is the blackboard design.
Ok, let’s come to the first one. My lesson comes from new senior English for China Module 2, Unit 1 the reading part. And the title is In Search of the Amber Room.(板书) It’s not very difficult for my Ss to understand this material because the timeline in this passage is very clear. The only problem is that they are not very familiar with the amber. So I’ll spend time in introducing amber to them. As my Ss are very interested in English and diligent. So I set the following teaching objectives. The first objective: Knowledge. Firstly students should be able to grasp the meanings of the new words and phrases. And this is also a key point. For example: amazing, decorate, jewel, in return and so on. (板书) Secondly, students should be familiar with the topic of amber room. The second objective is Skills. Firstly, students should be able to know the main idea of the whole passage. Of course this is a key point and I think it is a difficult point, too. Secondly, students should be able to improve the reading strategy: scanning and skimming. This is also a key point. Thirdly, students should be able to give their opinions about the cultural relics. And this is a difficult point. The third objective is Affects . Firstly, students should know the value of the cultural relics and they should also know why some of them were lost. The fourth one is Cultural awareness: Students should be able to know the history of the amber room and get more knowledge about the cultural relics in China and abroad. The last objective is the Learning strategies: Students should be able to get information from books or the Internet.
Now let’s come to the second part : the teaching method and the teaching aids. I’ll mainly adopt the 3-stage Model and the situational approach. And I need OHP, the blackboard and also a necklace with an amber as my teaching aids.
Then the most important part: the teaching procedure. There’re five steps in my teaching : lead-in, pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading and homework.
In lead-in part, I will spend 5m here. Firstly I’ll show them some pictures. There’s crystal, jade, amber, silver and gold. I’ll let them guess what are they and then introduce amber to them. Secondly, I will ask them the story of the gold room in the Chinese history and let the Ss say sth about it. I’m sure that Ss have known a lot about that because the TV《汉武大帝》is really popular, and the story of 《金屋藏娇》is quite famous, too. After talking about that, Ss are asked to say the functions of the gold room. This can help Ss to learn the functions of the amber room. Of course, when they are talking, I’ll help them to get familiar with some new words and expressions. And write them down on the blackboard.(指示黑板)
The next is the pre-reading part, 3m. I’ll tell Ss that there’s also an amber room in the history. And show them some pictures. Then let them predict the function of the amber room. This is not so difficult, because they have already talked about the functions of the gold room. And this prediction will help them to learn the following passage. After the prediction, I’d like to guide them to search for the history of the amber room.
Then comes the while-reading part. 25m here. And there’re two parts: fast reading and close reading. After the first fast reading , I’ll give them five questions that summarize the main ideas of the each paragraph. These questions come from Exercise Two. And then let them do the match. After checking the match, I’ll present some T or F questions. These questions may be the answers of the five questions before. For example: The amber room was designed for the palace of Frederick William I.(T F) Ss should read the passage again and then do the task. This can help students have a general idea about the whole passage.
In the close reading part.20m here. And three parts. First, read the first 3 paragraphs and pick out the Kings and the Queens appeared in these paragraphs. And then put them in the time order. This could help them to do the next task and it is interesting to do this kind of task. Then they should finish the table like this.(板书)

Time Character Event Function



Since the Ss have picked out the characters, what they should do next is just finding out what happened and writing down some key words or sentences. This is a small group competition. Every group has to choose one character and introduce the history of him or her. Then come to the blackboard to finish the table. If other group find more important information, then this group will lose. This kind of competition can help them to do the task quickly and efficiently. According to what they have written on the blackboard, I’ll explain some key words and phrases to them. The last task in close reading is Exercise One. Do the match. This is very easy for them after doing the previous tasks. But it’s also a good way to help them review.
Then the post-reading part. There’s 11m here. Firstly I’ll give them some questions to help them do some deeper thinking. Because the surface meaning is not enough, we, as the teacher, have to guide them to find some more meaningful. And connect what we have learned to the Chinese history. For example, questions like “why Fredrick built the amber room?” “why the amber room was lost?” “if you lost the amber room, will you rebuilt it?” are asked.
Then the group work. Ss should do the task in the group of 4 and discuss the history of Yuan Mingyuan. Then compare Yuan Mingyuan with the amber room. To find some similarities and differences. Ss have learned the history of Yuan Mingyuan in their history class. So it’s the time for them to think. And this can improve the skill of finding some useful information from the book. This is a good way for learning.
The last is the homework. Since we have talked some about Yuan Mingyuan in the class. Maybe the information is still not enough, so it’s better to search for the truth of Yuan Mingyuan. (与题目照应In Search of the Amber Room) Ss should search the Internet and do a table just like the teacher did in the class, also in the group of 4.(指示表格)They should do the task cooperatively.
