Good morning, teachers. My topic is “the Comparative Degrees Revision”

Part I .Analyze the Teaching Materials
1. Analyze the books and students.
This class is about comparative degrees. It not only arouses the students’ interest, but also it’s close to the students’ lives. It is easy to be accepted by the students. This lesson can help them to improve their ability of expressions. At present, the students have the ability of reading, speaking, talking and writing, but we can improve their oral expressions by reviewing the comparative degrees.
Part II. Revision Aims
1. Knowledge Aims
① Review how to use comparative degrees of adjectives .
②Can compare men and men, things and things with comparative degrees.
2. Ability Aim
Can describe your change with comparative degrees.
3. Emotion Aims
We can talk with each other with comparative degrees.
4. Important and difficult points:
① Review how to compare people.
② Review how to use the comparative degrees of adjectives.
③ The changes of the comparative degrees of adjectives.
Part III: Teaching and learning methods
Teaching methods: “Co-operative method” and read by themselves.
Learning methods:
1. Teach Ss how to review by themselves.
2. Teach Ss how to review in groups
Part IV. Revision Procedures
Step One: Leading-in
We haven’t seen for five months. So I am very glad to see you again. In the last five months, you have changed a lot. The boys become more handsome than before. The girls get more beautiful, too. All of you look more confident than before. So I also changed a lot. For example: I’m heavier than last year. Can you guess why? It’s colder last year than before, so I need more fat and I do less exercise. That’s the reason why I get heavier.
This step is to make the students feel the comparative degrees. According to the differences between five months ago and now, I can increase the interest of this grammar.
Step Two: Brainstorm: compare the following pictures,and make sentences. (the faster, the better.) They are all about the comparative degrees of adjectives. The students can make sentences by themselves according to the pictures. They are from easy to difficult.
This step is to remind the students of the comparative degrees. So they can understand and use it better. It’s easy to review this grammar.
Step Three: Summary
Have a summary about the changes of the comparative degrees.
1.单音节和少数双音节形容词比较级的构成。
1)一般在词尾加-er . tall — taller
2)以不发音的字母e 结尾的,加-r.
nice — nicer large — larger
3)以一个元音字母加一个辅音字母结尾的重读闭音节,先双写辅音字母,再加-er.
thin—thinner fat—fatter big—bigger
4)以辅音字母+y结尾的双音节词,变y为i,再加er.
happy—happier early-earlier healthy—healthier
5)多音节词和部分双音节词要在前面加more .
important—more important serious—more serious
interesting—more interesting
不规则变化:
good/well—better bad/badly—worse
many/much—more little—less
far— farther/further old —older/elder
This step is to make the students review the changes of comparative degrees.
Step Four: Review how to use the comparative degrees:
Show some pictures about comparative degrees and help them study how to use the comparative degrees.
一: 比较级的基本用法:(面向及格边缘生)
表达“A和B一样”,用as …. as 的结构。
You are as tall as him.
表达“A不如B”,用not as (so)…as 的结构。
I am not as/so outgoing as Tom. 或者:
I am less outgoing than Tom. (less +原级+than)
3、表达“A大于B”,用“比较级+than”的结构。
I am taller than Tom.
Practice: Compare you with your partner. Try to use the following sentences:
I’m as talented as Celina. I’m not as/ so serious as Lily.
I’m shorter than Mary. I’m more outgoing than Bob.
二: 比较级的更多用法:(面向优秀提高生)
1、在形容词比较级前还可用much, still, far, a little,even, a lot来修饰, 表示“…的多”, “甚至…”, “更…”, “…一些”。
①这个城市比以前更漂亮了。
This city is much more beautiful than before.
②她比我更外向。
She’s a little more outgoing than me.
2. 表达“越来越…” ,用“比较级+and+比较级” ,
多音节词用“more and more+形容词原级”形式。
①当春天到来的时候,白天越来越长,天气也变得越来越暖和。
When spring comes, the days are longer and longer, and the weather gets warmer and warmer.
②赵本山越来越受欢迎。
Zhao Benshan becomes more and more popular.
3、表示“越……,就越……”,
用“the+比较级…, the +比较级…”的结构。
①The more,the better. 多多益善。
②The more careful you are, the fewer mistakes you will make.
你越细心,犯错就越少。
③The harder you work at your study, the better grades you will have.
你学习越努力,你的成绩就越好。
4、表示“两个中较…的”,用“the 比较级+of the two…”。
My brother is the taller of the two boys .
5、有一些比较级含有最高级的意思:
• ①She is taller than any of the other students in our class.
• ②She is taller than the other students in our class.
• ③She is taller than any other student in our class.
• ④She is taller than anyone else in our class.
• = She is the tallest student in our class.
6.为了避免重复,用that和those代替前面所出现的名词。
①中国的人口比新加坡的人口多。
The population of China is larger than that of Singapore.
②我们班的学生比他们班的学生多。
The students in our class are more than those in their class
7、表示倍数的比较级用法:
a. A is …times the size /height/length/width of B.
The new building is three times the height of the old one.
这座新楼是那座旧楼的三倍高。 (新楼比旧楼高两倍。)
b. A is …times as big /high/long/wide/large as B.
Asia is four times as large as Europe.
亚洲是欧洲的四倍大。(亚洲比欧洲大三倍)
c. A is …times larger /higher/longer/wider than B.
Our school is twice bigger than yours.
我们学校比你们学校大两倍。
8、 表达A、B选择一者,用“Which / Who is + 比较级,A or B?”
①哪件T-恤更漂亮,这件还是那件?
Which T-shirt is nicer, this one or that one?
②谁更积极,Mary 还是Kate?
Who is more active, Mary or Kate?
Step Five: Describe your friends and let the other Ss guess who the person is. You can get the information like this:
Is he/she much taller than you (are)?
Is he/she a little more athletic than you?
Is he/she as thin as you?
Does he /she often do the same things as you do?
Do you both like sports?
Step Six: Exercises. Finish some exercises.
Step Seven : Have a test.
Step Eight: Homework.

• 探究性作业: “what are your opinions?”
Please write it out and tell the things that are the same and different between you and a friend.
