A Teaching Plan for He decided to have a big Christmas party
Hi, everyone. I'm … from …. Here I'm going to present my teaching design for a reading passage in Unit 1, English, Book 3.
This is the first unit of this book, mainly talking about western traditional festivals and celebrations, which can easily appeal to students. In the previous lessons students already talked about those famous festivals and have their own ideas and experiences of festivals like Christmas. And they also know how to invite friends to parties with them, using what they've learnt in Listening and Speaking. They are fond of popular culture and quite interested in festivals and parties. So when it comes to Christmas, they spontaneously want to talk and share their own stories.
The selected teaching material is a short Christmas story about Mr. Hall, who held a big Christmas party on the ice. All the guests he invited enjoyed the party a lot and everything went very well until he woke up the next day. He found all his furniture had disappeared because the ice had broken up and carried all of the furniture out into the sea.
Most of the students in my class come from the countryside. They are poor at English and lack understanding of western cultural background. However, it doesn't mean that they are shy in class and lazy in study. On the contrary, they are easily activated by pictures and sounds and they like to air their opinions about different topics. So discussions in groups are supposed to be carried out effectively.
As we know, this is a reading course, and the current theory views reading as an interactive process which involves not only the printed page but also the readers' general knowledge of the world and the language. So I will follow the interactive principle and mainly adopt guided reading, the communicative approach and task-based teaching method. Moreover, Audio-visual method is also applied and Multimedia devices and Ppt documents are used as my teaching aids.
