Difficult points are: The names of some important cities of the world and their locations. I have prepared some word cards, a turning-plate, a tape recorder, and some PowerPoint. Now I’m going to take the following steps. Step 1 Warm-up and review Firstly, I’ll have some greetings with my children. Secondly, I’ll sing the song <Thunder>. Thirdly, I’ll let the students review the words and sentences that they learnt in the first lesson. Just like this: Good afternoon, everyone. How are you today? I’m fine, too. What’s the weather like today? Yes, it’s cool. What day is it today? It’s Friday. Oh, the weekend is coming. So I’m very happy. When I am happy, I always want to sing songs. Would you like to listen to the song <Thunder>? Please sing with me if you can. (Sing the song) Wonderful. Ok, this song is about “weather”. Last lesson we learnt some words and sentences about weather. Now let’s review them together. (Show a map of China) Look at a map of China. Clap your hands and read together “It’s warm warm in Beijing; It’s cold cold in Harbin; It’s hot hot in Hong Kong; It’s cool cool in Lhasa.” Great! Then I’ll choose some students to give a weather report of China, just like this: Next, who can give a weather report? Mike, please! Good afternoon. This is the weather report. Today, It’s cool in Lhasa. It’s warm in Beijing. It’s cold in Harbin. It’s hot in Hong Kong. That’s all, thank you. Good job, a star for you. Step 2 Presentation After the revision, I’ll show a map of the world, and lead them to learn the new words and sentences, just like this: Boys and girls, just now we talked about the weather report of China. But do you know what the weather is like in America/Canada/Australia? Let’s have a look. Look, this is the map of the world. Here is Beijing. What’s the weather like in Beijing? It’s windy. What’s the meaning of “windy”? Look here. There is a lot of wind. We can say it’s windy. Windy, w-I-n-d-y, windy. Please pay attention to this letter /i/, windy. Ok, group1, windy, windy, windy; group2, windy, windy, windy; group3, windy, windy, windy; group4, windy, windy, windy. It’s windy in Beijing. Please answer my question: what’s the weather like in Beijing? It’s windy. And ask me: what’s the weather like in Beijing? It’s windy. Look here! This place is London. Do you know London? It’s capital city of England. As we know, It’s often foggy in London and it has a lot of rain. Maybe people there have to wear raincoats or take umbrellas when they go out. So we say “It’s rainy in London”. Rainy, r-a-I-n-y, rainy. Please pay attention to these letters /ei/, rainy. OK, boys read this word; rainy, rainy, rainy (more and more loudly) girls read this word, rainy, rainy, rainy (more and more lowly). Please answer my question: what’s the weather like in London? It’s rainy. And ask me: what’s the weather like in Beijing? It’s rainy. Now look at the blackboard (Draw a sun). What’s this? Oh, it’s the sun. The sun shines brightly. I feel very hot. We can say it’s sunny. Sunny, s-u-n-n-y, sunny. Please pay attention to u /^/, sunny. Please read together, sunny, sunny, sunny. Let’s find the word “sunny” in the map. It’s here. Singapore is sunny. Please answer: What’s the weather in Singapore? It’s sunny in Singapore. Next, look carefully! What’s this? It’s cloud, there is a lot of cloud in the sky. Now we can say it’s cloudy. Follow me, Cloudy, c-l-o-u-d-y, cloudy. Look at these letter ou /au/, cloudy. Speak louder cloudy, cloudy, cloudy. Let’s find it. It’s here. It’s Sydney. It’s a beautiful city in Australia. Please answer: What’s the weather like in Sydney? It’s cloudy in Sydney. Now, what’s it? It’s a snowman. Do you making a snowman? Oh, yes. Let’s go to Moscow now. There is a lot of snow in Moscow. It’s snowy in Moscow. Snowy, s-n-o-w-y, snowy. Answer me: What’s the weather like in Moscow? It’s snowy . Step 3 Practice After the new words and sentences, we’ll do some practice. Practice 1: I’ll let the students listen to the tape-recorder and read after it. They can learn the right pronunciation. Practice 2: I’ll show the word cards quickly, and let the students guess what it is, just like this: What’s this? Snowy? Sorry. Cloudy? Sorry. Yes, it’s rainy. Practice 3: I’ll show the cards and lead children to read these words one by one. We’ll practice them in different ways, such as high or low voice, and so on. After that I’ll let children practice in groups. Finally, I’ll check them. For example, I stick the cards on the blackboard. Then I’ll call some students to stand in front and touch the right words that I say. The student who has the fastest reaction should be rewarded. Practice 4: I’ll show them a turning plate with the names of some cites and weather. Let two students turn it and make a conversation by using the chosen words. Just like this: “What’s the weather like in Beijing? It’s sunny. Step 4 Extension As we know, English is very useful in our daily life. The students should put what they learn into practice. So this step, I’ll make some scenes about weather. In order to raise the students’ interest and let them have a better understanding about the words and sentences. 1. 1.A survey Firstly, I’ll use a happy face and a sad face to show the different feelings about different weather. At the same time I’ll teach the sentences, just like this: I don’t like the snowy day, because it’s too cold. But I like the sunny day, because I can fly kites and play games on the playground. Now tell me your likes and dislikes about weather. OK, Amy, please. Do you like the snowy day? Oh, you like it. You like to make a snowman. How about a sunny day? Oh, you also like it. You can play with your friends. Sit down, please. Next I’ll make a survey. I’ll show the students the form. Let the students finish the form according to their likes and dislike in groups. 2. 2.A world weather report Secondly, I’ll show how to make the world weather report twice. Then I’ll let the students make a new weather report in groups. They can use the key points of this lesson or use their own words. I’ll give them three minutes to prepare it. Then I’ll check their results. Just like this: “Who can give a weather report of the world? Mike, please! Good afternoon. Here is the world weather. It’s rainy in London. It’s snowy in Moscow. It’s windy in Beijing. It’s sunny in Singapore. It’s cloudy in Sydney. That’s all, thank you; see you tomorrow! Good job, a star for you. Step 5 Summary and Homework Look at my blackboard design. Today we have learnt the words: windy, sunny, cloudy, snowy, rainy” and two structures: What’s the weather like in Beijing? It’s rainy. Now homework for today: 1. 1.Listen to the tape and read the words twice. 2. 2.Act like a weather reporter in the family. 3. 3.Make a survey and write down the results in the exercise book. I believe the students can use the knowledge freely now. So much for lesson. Thank you for your attention.
