 Good morning, honorable judges. Today I feel very happy to have the chance to communicate with you about the teaching plan of Unit1 Reading from Book 8B Fun With English. I will divide the instructions into seven parts. They are Teaching Material Analysis, Teaching Aims, Teaching Emphasis, Teaching Difficulties, Teaching Methods, Teaching Aids and Teaching Procedures.
Part 1 Teaching Material Analysis
This passage is from unit1 Past and Present. It is the first topic in module 1 Travel in Time and Space. It is focused on the changes and development of Sunshine Town. Such a topic is related to students’ daily life. So it is helpful to cultivate students’ interest in learning the language and raise their consciousness of the development of the society. Therefore this lesson is in the important position of the teaching material.
Part 2.Teaching Aims
1. Knowledge Aims:
After the lesson, students should be able to
(1) Master the four-skilled words and phrases.
(2) Get information about the development of Sunshine Town.
2. Ability Aims:
(1) Be able to describe the changes to Sunshine Town using proper adjectives.
(2) Improve the reading skills, especially the ability of getting details.
3. Emotional Aims:
Enhance the understanding of the economic development and love and pride of the motherland.
Part3. Teaching Emphasis
Know the changes to Sunshine Town and be able to describe the development of Sunshine Town using proper adjectives.
Part4. Teaching Difficulties
Some long sentences about the past of Sunshine Town and pollution may be the obstacles of understanding.
Part5. Teaching Methods
In this period I will adopt the Three-stage model and Task-based Language Teaching Method.
The English Curriculum Standard advocates teachers to adopt the task-based language Teaching. TBLT can stimulate students’ initiative in learning and let students experience success in the process of completing tasks. By experiencing and practicing, form students’ sufficient competence in using the language.
Part 6. Teaching Aids
Multi-media player, tape recorder, the blackboard
Part7. Teaching Procedures
Step1. Pre-reading
Presentation
1. Show some pictures of Beijing and teach the new words.
Cinema, factory, waste, pollute, reduce
Write the new words on the blackboard and teach students to read.
2. Ask Qs:
What changes have happened in your hometown?
(Purpose: To clear away the obstacles of new words and use Qs to activate students’ background information and lead in the topic.)
Step2. While-reading
1. Fast Reading
Read the passage quickly to answer the Qs:
(1) Where was Timmy when the earthquake happened?
(2) Was Timmy saved at last?
(Purpose: To develop the skills of skimming and how to gain the main idea of the passage.)
2. Detailed Reading
Task1: Read the passage carefully and answer the questions.
(1) Ha Beijing Sunshine Town changed a lot?
(2) What does Mr. Chen think of the changes?
(Purpose: To develop students’ reading skill of skimming and how to gain the main idea of the passage. )
Task2: Detailed reading
Read the passage more quickly and answer more questions.
(1) How many questions has Millie asked?
(2) What are they?
The changes to the local people (population and entertainment)
The changes to the environment (buildings and pollution)
The changes to Mr. Chen’s life (living conditions)
(Purpose: Get students to pay attention to the types of the questions used in interviews and cultivate students’ ability of sorting out information)
Task3: Complete the table
Read the passage carefully again and find out the changes to complete the table.

(Purpose: By completing the table, students will be able to compare the past and the present. It will help the students to get a clear idea about the changes and deepen their understanding )
Step3. Post-reading
Task4: Read the passage again and tell if the sentence true of false.
(1) Mr. Chen knows Sunshine Town very well.
(2) He moved to Sunshine Town in 1965.
(3) He got married last year.
(4) Mr. Chen moved out of Sunshine Town when he got married.
(5) In the past, 30,000 people lived in Sunshine Town.
(6) Mr. Chen and his old friends meet in the new park to play cards and Chinese chess.
(Purpose: to check students’ understanding of the passage)
Task5:
Read the passage after the tape and fill in the blanks.
Mr. Chen lives in Sunshine Town. After he got m_______, he and his wife m_____ to a new house. Last year, they moved again when their children b______ them a new flat. In the past there were small r________, shops and market stalls in the town. Now the place has c_______ a lot. The town center is now a park. Many of Mr. Chen’s old friends have m______ to other areas. Sometimes, they come back and go to the new park to play cards and Chinese c_____. But they don’t often see each other. Mr. Chen feels l_______ from time to time.
(Purpose: To let students have an overall perception of the passage and consolidate the key phrases in the passage.)
Homework:
1. Read the passage for at least three times.
2. Master words and phrases learnt in the passage.
3. Try to retell the changes to Sunshine Town for top students.
Teaching Reflection:
During my teaching, I try my best to encourage students to take an active part in the class- activities. By asking students to complete some tasks, students will acquire the language naturally by practicing. As it’s a reading material, I paid much attention to the guidance on the reading skill.
