 EP Book3 Unit6 B Let’s Learn Let’s do

Hello, I am going to talk about the lesson Unit6 B Let’s Learn in PEP Book3 .This lesson includes two parts: Let’s Learn and Let’s do. There are 5 new words and a short conversation about jobs in “Let’s learn”, In Let’s do, Ss will be asked to listen and act like different people. Before this lesson, Ss have learned the words “teacher”, student, they can use deion words such as “tall, short” to describe people’s appearance, use “he/she likes…”to talk about preferences. Ss are also very familiar with the structure “ What’s your…”
According to the contents and the learners’ characteristics, I think the teaching aims should be the followings:
Aims of knowledge: 1.Ss will be able to understand, say, read the words: farmer , driver, doctor, nurse, baseball player . 2. Ss can understand and say the patterns “What’s your father? My father is a doctor.”
Aims of the abilities: Ss will be able to use the key sentences : What’s your father(mother) ?My mother is a (doctor).to talk about other people’s jobs.
Aims of the emotion: Ss will be interested in talking about jobs.
Now let me talk about the important points and the difficulties of the lesson, how will I highlight the importance, break through the difficulties?
The important point is: Ss will be able to use the new words and the patterns to talk about other people’s jobs. I will use the CAI to help me make the lesson more vividly, and I’ll design 4 activities to make sure that most Ss can reach the aims. The difficult point is: Pronounce “driver” correctly, maybe I’ll use a game to let Ss practice with much fun, I’ll also ask Ss as many as possible to read it by pair work and groups.
Now I’ll talk about the 4 activities:
The first activity : Sarah’s family tree.
Firstly, with the help of CAI , teacher shows Sarah’s family tree and ask Ss: How many members in Sarah’s family ? Who are they? It can review family members’ name and also have a good preparation for the new words learning. Secondly, the picture of Sarah’s grandpa will be shown on the screen. He is a farmer. Teacher guides the Ss to learn the new words: farmer. According to the pronunciation “ar” /a:/, teacher shows another two words: far , farm and let Ss practice. I think the correct pronunciation is very important for our children, they will be asked to read after the tape, try to imitate. Thirdly, teacher shows four farmers on the screen and let Ss to describe: Farmer A is strong .Farmer B is short. Farmer C is tall. Farmer D is old. In this way, Ss will not only learn to say the word, but also be able to use the word. Fourthly, let Ss act like Sarah and practice the sentences: My grandpa is a farmer. I love my grandpa. Fifthly, teacher asks Ss: Who is a farmer in your family?
Then, teacher shows the pictures of Sarah’s father , mother, brother .Her father is a driver. Her mother is a doctor . Her brother is a baseball player. etc. Use the same procedure to learn each word.
THe Purpose of this activity: As we all know ,vocabulary teaching is a very important part in primary English. As a teacher ,we should not only help Ss learn words, but also try to create a situation for the Ss to use the words . So in this period, teacher mainly use situational teaching method and design Sarah’s family tree to learn the new words.
What’s more, CAI can provide a real situation with it’s sound and picture. So teacher shows many pictures and words with the CAI .And it is much easier for Ss to Learn and master the new words.
The second activity :Let’s do and Let’s chant
After learning the new words ,teacher designs some activities to review and consolidate the new words. Firstly, let Ss chant : What’s your grandpa? What’s your grandpa? My grandpa is a farmer. What’s your father? What’s your father? My father is a driver. It’s an easy chant. Let Ss practice the new words and sentences pattern with fun. Then, teacher ask Ss to use the sample chant to make a new one. It’s not only to review the new words , but also to inspire Ss’ creativity. Thirdly, Let’s do is also a good way. The contents of “Let’s do “is : Act like a doctor. Act like a farmer.ect. Saying and acting can arouse Ss’ interest of learning English.
The third activity :Game___Guess Guess Guess
There are lots of ways to consolidate the new knowledge. Playing guessing game is a good way. The first game is“ Who is lucky?” Teacher shows five pictures of farmer ,driver, doctor, nurse and baseball player on the screen . The CAI shows every picture as quickly as possible. Let Ss guess “Which picture will be stop?” Ss can choose one of them and say it. If CAI stops on the picture of farmer, then farmer is lucky. Ss who choose farmer will be lucky and get a star. The second guessing game is” What is she\he ?” For example, the CAI presents a part of the picture with a driver. Teacher asks Ss to guess his\her occupation: Is she\he a farmer( a doctor…) ?
The guessing game can avoid the lifelessness and boredom from the pure machanical drills. It creats the conditions of a relaxed and natural atmosphere for children’s drills.
The fourth activity : Little reporter
Teacher designs a task .First, Ss will be a reporter . Let them interview their partner: What’ your father / mother /…?For example : A: Hellow! What’s your father ? B: He is a farmer. He is tall. He likes music. Second, teacher gives every Ss a piece of paper and ask Ss to finish the dialogue. On the paper ,there is a dialogue: A:Hello, … ! What’s your ? B: He/ She is a . He/ She is .He/ She likes .
Of course , there are some useful words ,such as worker ,waiter, sports, science to be given with the CAI. Ss can choose them to finish the dialogue. Task-based teaching method is used here for the Ss to make a dialogue. By finishing this activity, Ss’ ability of communication and co-operation will be well trained.
With the above activities, I’m sure my teaching aims can be achieved.
