Language focus
First, we’re going to go to the museum.
We usually talk quietly at the library.
Can I play at the museum?
No,you mustn’t play there. We must look and listen carefully.
The first period
A. Tim and Pat are going to have a busy day with Koko. Read, listen and act.(P.1)
Presentation
1. Bring photos or draw pictures of various places, e.g.library, school corridor, playground and show them to the class.
2. (Books closed.) Point to each picture. Tell the students that different places have different rules. Ask the students What are the rules at the library? Ask this in a very loud voice. Ask the students Should we talk loudly in the library?
3. Draw a table of two columns on the board. In the first column write the words always, usually, sometimes and never. Revise the words with the students.
4. Point to the picture of the school corridor. Mime walking slowly. Ask the students When should we walk slowly in the school corridor? Sometimes, always, usually or never? In the second column put a tick next to the correct word.
5. Ask the students about the rules for each place.
6. Show Transparency. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and point to each of the pictures. Ask the students to repeat after the cassette.
Practice
1. (Books open.) Show Transparency. Point to each picture. Revise the locations and teach the new words. Read aloud or play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Ask the students to repeat the words after me. All students read the conversations together loudly. Then read the conversation between two students.
2. Ask the students to work in pairs and act the dialogues. They should role-play the conversation and continue it using the locations and words shown in the pictures.
Homework
Recite Part A.
Finish the conversation by themselves and copy the in the exercisebook.
Listen to the radio and read the dialogues after it.
The second period
Revision
What must/mustn’t we do in the library? We must/mustn’t….
B1. Tim is looking after his little cousin, David. Listen, read and tick the correct pictures. (p.2)
Presentation
1. Revise museum and hospital with the class.
2. Ask the students to think of the rules at the museum and the hospital.
3. Divide the board in half. At the top of one, write We must… Tell the students these are things they have to do in a museum/hospital. At the top of the other, write We mustn’t… Tell the students these are things that we cannot do in a museum/hospital.
4. Write down the rules that the students suggest in the correct section.
Practice
1. (Book open.) Show Transparency.Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. The first time, ask the class to listen and follow along in their books. The second time, pause the tape and ask the students to repeat the sentences.
2. Point to each of the pictures in turn and ask the students to tell you what is happening in each picture.
3. Ask the students to read the conversation again and put a tick in the box of the correct pictures. Correct it in class and ask some students to talk about the pictures using must or mustn’t.

The third period
B2.Look and read. Then complete the sentences with ‘must’ or ‘mustn’t’.
Review
Ask the students to recite B1.
Presentation
1. Bring in a list of rules for an amusement park.
2. (Books closed.)Read out the rules to the students. Ask them each to choose a rule from the list and draw a sign for it.
3. Put the students into groups of four. Ask each member of the group to show the sign they have drawn to the rest of the group. The other members have to guess what the rule is. Tell them to write down the rule using must or mustn’t. Each group then presents their rules to the rest of the class.
4. Display the best signs in the classroom.
Practice
1. (Books open.) Show Transparency.
2. Ask the students to complete the rules using must or mustn’t according to what they hear on the tape.
3. Check the answers. Ask some students to read aloud their answers with the whole class. Ask the students to repeat the sentences after me.
B3. Listen and match the people and the places.
Read the rubric to students. Remind them that they should familiarize themselves with the words and the pictures on the page in the time they have before listening. Ask them to take time to read the sentences before I play the tape. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Ask several students to tell the answer.

The fourth period
Revision

C. The fire drill.
1. Point to Mr Lu and Bob. Ask the students to tell you who they are and what they are like.
2. Ask the students to cover Picture 5 and 6. Read the characters’ words with the students up to and including Picture 4. Ask the students to re-read and tell you what is happening in Picture 1. Ask the students to guess where Bob is.
3. Play the tape for the pupils and ask them to say the sentences after the cassette.
4. Ask the pupils why fire drills are important. (we needto know what to do if there is a fire.)
D. Read the story again. Then read the sentences below. Write T for true or F for false. (p.5)
Ask the pupils to read the story again. Then check the answers with the students.
Homework
Listen to the radio read part C fluently.
Listen to part E and read after it.
The fifth period
Revision
What must/mustn’t we do when there is a fire?
E. Read the symbols and say the words..
1. Tell the students the difference of the two sounds. Ask the students to find five words which sound like that.
2. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and ask the pupils to listen to the sound and the words.
3. Say the words slowly and clearly. Check that the pupils are saying the sound correctly.
4. Point to the pictures and check that the pupils can say the words.
5. Play the cassette again. Ask the pupils to listen to the poem and read it after the cassette.
6. Play the cassette , ask the students to write down the words that are the same letters with the same sound.
F.Look and do.(pp.6-7)
1. Ask the students to read the library rules then look at the picture. Talk with the class about what each of the students in the picture is doing, e.g. What’s Kevin doing?
2. Ask the students to write down what each child is doing wrong in the list below. Remind the students that they should only use must or mustn’t. Check the answers with the class.
3. Then ask them to turn to page 7 and look at the pictures of the museum and the Children’s Palace. Ask them to choose one of the locations.
4. Put the students in groups of three and ask them to discuss the rules in a museum and a children’s Palace. Many of the rules will be the same. Ask them to make notes using must and mustn’t.
5. Then ask the students to return to their desks and use their notes to fill in the blanks in the letter to parents at the bottom of the page. Put a model sentence on the board to help the students. They shoud use complete sentences. Walk around the class and help the students.
6. Go through the answers with the class. Ask more confident students to read out their completed letters to the class. Write answers on the board.
G. Listen and chant.
1.Play the cassette for the pupils to listen to the chant and ask them to read it after the cassette.
2.Play the cassette again and encourage the students to join in with the words. Then ask the students in groups to think of alternative activities for the second line in each verse. Ask each group to perform their new chant.
H. Think about it!
Explain to the students that different countries have different emergency numbers. Tell the students to circle the correct emergency number for the USA. The emergency number in the USA is 911. Ask the students if they know the emergency number for any other countries: UK: 999, Australia:000.

Recite the chant.
Do Workbook exercises P1-P4.

Review
Recite the chant together.
I. Further reading
1. Talk to the students about what rules they follow out on the street.
2. Ask them to draw some street signs. Ask them what they mean.
3. Tell the students to look at the sentences below and corcle the correct words according to what they have read in the passage..
4. Check the answers with the students.

Tell the students to choose the word to write on the correct blank. Ask the students to say the answers and check them.
Homework

课后小记:这一课学了情态动词Must和Mustn’t的用法,大部分学生还是能够理解这两个词的用法,但由于对课文中以前学过的短语有些遗忘,所以要多加强短语的复习,特别是听写。
