The first period
A. These people were helpful. Look, listen and act.(P.11)
Presentation
1. Bring in a bag filled with items, e.g.keys, coins, bananas. Hide some items in the classroom.
2. Tell the classI lost a banana. Can you find it? Let the students look for it. When found, tell the students Look, (student’s name) found my banana.
3. (Book open.) Tell the students that you are using present and past tense. Ask them to look at the word boxes on the page. Explain the difference between the tenses if necessary.
4. Show the students keys and then drop the keys. Tell the students I dropped my keys. Can someone pick them up for me? Ask for a volunteer. After the volunteer picks up the keys say (student’s name) picked up my keys.
5. Continue to do this with as many items as possible to demonstrate the difference in tenses.
Practice
1. (Books open.) Show Transparency. Point to each picture. Revise the locations and teach the new words. Read aloud or play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Ask the students to repeat the words after me. All students read the conversations together loudly. Then read the conversation between two students.
2. Ask the students to work in pairs and act the dialogues. They should role-play the conversation and continue it using the locations and words shown in the pictures.
Homework
Recite Part A.
Finish the conversation by themselves and copy the in the exercisebook.
Listen to the radio and read the dialogues after it.
The second period

B1. Listen and read. Number the picture.(p.12)
Presentation
1. Put a word box like the one at the bottom of page 12 on the board. Read out a present tense verb from the table. Ask the students to say the past tense of the verb. Make sure that the students are saying the word correctly.
2. (Books closed. ) Write a sentence using the wrong tense on the board, e.g. Grandma lose her glasses today. I find them in the kitchen,etc.
3. Ask the students to change the verbs to the correct tense.
Practice
1. (Book open.) Show Transparency.Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. The first time, point out that when someone is telling a story they are usually using past tense. Ask the class to listen and follow along in their books. The second time, pause the tape and ask the students to repeat the sentences.
2. Tell the students to listen again and number the pictures below in the correct order.
3. Ask the students to work in pairs and take turns to circle all the past tense verbs they can see on the page.

The third period
B2.Bob helped some people today. Read and write. Then say and act.(p.13)
Review
Ask the students to recite B1.
Presentation
1. Find some interesting stories about people helping each other,e.g.fireman,policeman, etc.
2. (Books closed.)Tell the class one story. Use first, then, next and after that.
3. While listening to the story ask the students to make notes. Then ask them to summarise the story.
Practice
1. (Books open.) Show Transparency. Read the conversation and ask the students to repeat them after me.
2. Tell the students to work in pairs and complete the conversation using the prompts in the character’s thought bubbles.
3. Check the answers. Ask some students to read aloud their answers with the whole class. Ask the students to repeat the sentences after me.
B3. Mr Feng is a fireman. Listen and tick the correct sentences.(p.13)
Read the rubric to students. Remind them that they should familiarize themselves with the words and the pictures on the page in the time they have before listening. Ask them to take time to read the sentences before I play the tape. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Ask several students to tell the answer.

The fourth period

C. A story: The shoemaker and the little men(p.14)
1. Point to and introduce the shoemaker. Explain that he makes shoes but he is very poor.
2. Ask the students to cover Picture 5 and 6. Read the first three paragraphs with the students. Ask them What do you think will happen next?
3. Remove cover and let the students read the rest of the story silently and unaided the first time. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette for the students and ask them to say the sentences after the cassette.
4. Ask the students Why did the little men help the shoemaker? (He was poor and they were helpful and good.)
D. Read the story again. Number the sentences. (p.15)
Ask the pupils to read the story again. Then check the answers with the students.
Homework
Listen to the radio read part C fluently.
Listen to part E and read after it.
The fifth period
Revision
Review Part C.
E. Read the symbols and say the words..
1. Tell the students the difference of the two sounds. Ask the students to find five words which sound like that.
2. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and ask the pupils to listen to the sound and the words.
3. Say the words slowly and clearly. Check that the pupils are saying the sound correctly.
4. Point to the pictures and check that the pupils can say the words.
5. Play the cassette again. Ask the pupils to listen to the poem and read it after the cassette.
6. Play the cassette , ask the students to write down the words that are the same letters with the same sound.
F.The school newspaper (pp.16-17)
1. Ask the students to read through the notes and the school newspaper report. Talk with the class about the students of the week, e.g. What did Li Mingmei do?
2. Tell the students that they must write a school report in the same style as the one they have just read.
3. Ask the students to look at page 17 and the notes about the students who have helped people. Ask the students to pick one of the students to be their ‘Student of the Week’.
4. Tell them to use the notes and write a news report about the student in the space on page 16.
5. Ask the students to read out their reports to the class. Ask the students Why did you choose that person?
6. Encourage the class to tell whether the report included all the information provided in the note. Ask the students to say if each report is correct or incorrect.
G. Listen and chant.
1.Play the cassette for the pupils to listen to the chant and ask them to read it after the cassette.
2.Play the cassette again and encourage the students to join in with the words. Then ask the students in groups to think of alternative activities for the second line in each verse. Ask each group to perform their new chant.
H. Think about it!
Ask the students Which animals can help people? Ask the students to circle the animal that usually helps blind people. The answer is ‘ a dog’.

I. Further reading
1. Arouse interest in the passage by asking the class Does anyone know tho Dr Bethune is? Tell the students that he was an important doctor and he helped a lot of people.
2. Ask the students Where do you think Dr Bethune was from? Tell the students to read through the passage.
3. Ask the students to answer the questions at the bottom of the page. Tell the students to write T for true of F for false. Check the answers with the students.
J Progress check
Tell the students to choose the word to write on the correct blank. Ask the students to say the answers and check them.
Homework
Listen to radio and read part I fluently.

课后小记:这一课的课文内容比较多,学生对课文的朗读和背诵有点吃力,可多增加学生在课堂上的朗读。另这一课复习了很多上个学期学过的一般过去式的动词,同时也加了几个新的动词的不规则变化,学生对一般过去式这些动词的不规则变化掌握有点薄弱,所以应多加强练习。
