Oral Presentation of Lesson Plan for Module 4, Unit 1 :Women of Achievements
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, it’s my great honor to stand here to show with you a teaching plan. As a teacher, what do you most interested in? “How to teach English well, right?”It’s quite the same with me. Well, doing this teaching design, I also ask myself another question: How to help the students learn effectively? For I was inspired by a famous saying:“If you teach me, I forget; If you show me, I learn ; If you involve me, I remember.”The book I am using is new senior English for China, Module 4, Unit 1 :Women of Achievements, And the lesson is using language. It covers four skills: reading, speaking, listening and writing. And it’s my job to give them a good combination. This period is to be form focus, meaning center intake-based, and output-oriented .To achieve the three dimensional teaching objectives, I would like the students to comprehend the passage and master the basic elements to describe persons. And after the reading, they may feel, they may learn to judge the important role of women playing in the society and begin to think about their future careers. And the whole lesson is to be conducted in the top-down methods .It is important for the students to put the reading strategies into practice, but these may be lot difficulties for students. And as for grammar rules, I always encourage my students to understand the meanings of words from the contexts and make their own grammar rules, but students may be not do it very well systematically. I will give them necessary help. And let’s come to the teaching procedures. You know revision always serves as a very good link to the previous knowledge, and I do not want to scare my students at the beginning of the lesson .So competition may serve as a very good beginning. And I would give time for them to work in groups, and think of many words as possible to describe these persons they have learned before. [Presenting the 1st PPT about the teaching procedures.] And you know this is competition, like a brainstorm, so students will work together and write in limited time .They will feel very excited and want to do the best in their groups. And after that, I will show their results on the project. Everybody would see which group did the best. After this competition, they will be happy and have a very good mood to go on with this lesson. And step II is the most important part of this lesson, because the students are going to do the reading. [Presenting the 2nd PPT about the Step Two.]And the whole reading is conducted with the strategies instructed first. [Presenting the 3rd PPT about before reading strategies.] And they, then, they will put the strategies into practice .First, to do the prediction, and then do skimming and scanning. [Presenting the 4th PPT about the while reading strategies.] And I would tell the students to skim is to read quickly and note only key points, as for scanning is to read intensively to get the detail information, and tasks are given before hand, [Presenting the 5th PPT about the task 2 skimming for the main idea.] so that they know what to do. And with these questions in mind, they will locate only that necessary information and neglect those that they are not quite sure about. [Presenting the 6th PPT about the task 3 of scanning for information]. And after this reading, [Presenting the 7th PPT about the underlined task.]I would ask them to underline words and expressions and sentences which they feel useful. And they may ask for help if there’s any points they are not quite sure about .And then will deep down the comprehension with this question “What made this person famous?” and which the answer may come, the very important sentences and structures for emphasis and I will lead them to observations and give them a group of the sentences, and they need observe and compare and make conclusions [Presenting the 8th PPT about post reading.] “How to use this kind of sentence structure?”Then they will talk with their table-mates how to use them ,and give their own grammar rules presented to the whole class. And after that the teacher will give them a systematic conclusion and show them how to use it. And then come to the highlights of this lesson, and before this lesson, I ask the students to corporate in groups and collect information about the woman they admired, they may surf the Internet or collect posters, newspapers, or video clips with anything they like about the woman they own admired, they work in groups and then this time is show time. Students always like this kind of activity very much. You know, because they feel “I’m the most important person” at that time, and they will, you can never imagine them how creative they are. And they will talk directly with their counterparts, because they work in groups of two and this time they make. But I want them to focus on three things, that is, the experience, qualities and achievements, and I think after this discussion, they may come very naturally to the writing part. And as for this controlled writing, I will help them get the clue of writing by instructing them this step, let them know “how to do” and “what to do”. The readings are dividing into three parts. The first is to organize their ideas and these are clues for them to know, and then is the structure “how to make an outline” [Presenting the 9th PPT about the task 8 writing a rough draft.] And after this, is writing a rough draft with these questions in mind, they begin to write. And after this, it’s an assessment form. [Presenting the 10 th PPT about a composition assessment.] I would ask them to exchange their writing scripts with their tablemates, and with this chart, they know how to make assessment, and how to improve their writing. Last come to the homework assignment. Altogether five home-works are assigned. [Presenting the 11th PPT about the homework.] You know, the first two are optional and the three with a dairy are compulsory. You know, with this lesson, they may begin to think about their future career, this may help them to take their present study more seriously. And as for those who are very good at English, they may need to read more about the world’s greatest writers, or people in the world. And of course read the test is necessary and polish their essay will help them improve. The “Words Wall” project, you may not know that, is a routine work that students do every two weeks. They find out the usage of the words and expressions they’ve learned, and make sentences. The whole group will write the passage, and put them up on the blackboard in creative designs .These are some of works they had done before .And you can never imagine they are very, very creative, and sometimes it’s really amazing to see their work and you never know how well they have mastered these little words after this project .And this is my blackboard design. Thank you for listening.
