Great Expectations

During the summer vacation, I read several English books, one of them is entitled“Great expectations”. It was written by Charles Dickens and adapted by Mitsu Yamamoto. Charles Dickens, who is a famous writer was born in England, in 1812, the second of eight children of a detridden government clerk. It is a very interesting and significant book. There are many things worth considering. Only when you have read it carefully, can you know it very well. Then let me tell you the story briefly. I think you will like it.

The two most important characters called Pip and Estella. Young Pip, an orphan, was brought up by his sister Joe Gargery and her husband Blacksmith. He also was the apprentice of Blacksmith. The family was not very rich ,but they lived in their village happily. And Estella was adopted by Miss Hawishem who had a large fortune, but their life was not happy. By accident, Pip got to know Estella who was a very beautiful girl. And he loved her deeply since then. Pip yearned to be a gentleman when he was very young, but he didn’t have enough money to receive education. Suddenly a mysterious person left him a fortune and he left his village to be educated as a rich gentleman. Pip longed to marry Estella, beautiful ward of the eccentric Miss Howishem.. But Pip’s new life was shattered by the re-appearance of Maguitch, a convict who once force him to steal. Pip once sowed Maguitch’s life, but now all changed, he was the very benefactor of Pip. Finally, after so many difficulties, Pip married Estella who in fact was the daughter of Maguitch. But Maguitch died. Maybe this was the ending for him.
