Christmas Day is the most important festival in the Christmas world. It is on December 25th. This is the biggest and best—loved holiday in the Western Countries.
Nowadays, Christmas Day is not only a time for worship but also a day of fun and celebration. And it is a time for family and friends to get together. No matter how far one is away from his home, he will try his best to go back home for the holiday. They have a lot of things to do these days.
People always begin to prepare Christmas long before the holiday comes. First, they get a Christmas tree ready and cover it with strings of colorful lights. People buy some ornaments, cards and small gifts too. And some ornaments and gifts are hanged in the tree.
On Christmas Eve, there will be a big dinner. People have turkey or ham, sweet potatoes, vegetables and cranberry sauce traditionally. They also have sweets, chocolate bonbons, walnuts and pecans and something else. Besides, people send Christmas cards to their friends, relatives, colleagues and classmates with their best wishes for the holiday and the coming New Year. “A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.” is always written on the cards.
Children are really happy to have Christmas Day, not only because they will have a wonderful holiday and have a lot of things to eat, but also they can receive gifts from the Sante Claus, which is thought to exist by the children. Of course, Sante Claus is just an imaginary figure. Actually it is the parents who fill the stockings with gifts they have bought for the children.
The Christmas songs, also called carols, are loved by all the people who hear and sing them every year. They express the wishes to everybody singing the songs house by house. And they believe that their coming New Year will be full of happiness and good luck.
In a word, Christmas Day is the most popular and important festival for the Christmas people. People all have a very happy holiday.
