Step 1 Lead-in
Lead in by talking about travelling and whether they have been to the Three Gorges..
Step 2 Learning objectives
1.To improve your reading skill (fast reading & scanning).
2. To help you know some information about The Three Gorges.
3. To help you know how to describe your trip when you travel.
4. To learn some useful words and beautiful sentences.
Step 3 Pre-reading
Question:Imagine you are going on a trip through the Three Gorges, what topics will you talk about?
Step 4 While-reading
1.      Skimming
Read the passage and check the following items which the writer talks about.

2. Scaning
First reading
1) Try to find the information about their trip.

Second reading
1) Read the passage carefully and fill in the chart. This can help the students to have more details of the passage.

2) Draw a route about the trip.

Step 4 Retell
1) Give the students some key words and ask them retell the route according to the key words. This exercise can help the students have a better understanding of the passage.

2) Show a map when the students retell the route. This can not only help the students have a clear impression about Peter’s travel route but also can help the students apply their geography knowledge about the Three Gorges.
Step 5 Beautiful Sentences
Ask the students to find beautiful sentences from the passage.
Modal: Every rock looked like a person or animal, every stream that joined the great river carried its legends, every hill was heavy with the past.
