The first period
A. Koko is asking Pat about festivals. Listen, look and say.
Presentation
1. Review the names of the months, by asking the pupils When’s your birthday? Write the names of the months in groups of three according to the seasons, starting with March, April and May.
2. Ask the pupils about the seasons by pointing to a group of three months and asking Which season is this? This revises the use of which taught in the previous unit. Revise the weather in those seasons, too.
3. Ask When is Chinese New Year? Ask the pupils to tell me what other festivals they know the name of in English. Ask When is Christmas?
4. Teach the other festivals and the phrases for what we do then, i.e. eat chocolate eggs, watch boat races, go trick or treat, get presents, get lucky money.
5. Ask the pupils to tell me words they know for things they see and do at these festivals.
6. Show Transparency. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and point to the speech bubbles. Ask the pupils to repeat after the cassette.
Practice
1. Show Transparency. Show the small pictures of how people celebrate the different festivals. Revise the phrases and ask Do you … at …?
2. Read the conversation between Koko and Pat. Ask the pupils to repeat the conversation after me.
3. Ask the pupils to work in pairs to role-play Pat and Koko and ask about the other festivals.
Homework
Write one or two sentences about the festivals in part A.
课后记
表示节日和月份的单词首字母要大写,而表示季节的单词则不用大写,有的学生分不太清楚。
多给学生介绍外国一些有特色的节日,让他们多了解外国的一些文化习俗,学生还是挺感兴趣的。

The second period
Revision
Ask and answer questions about the festivals.
B1. The children are talking about their favourite festival. Listen and act.
Presentation
1. Write on the board the names of the festivals. Ask the pupils Which is your favourite festival?
2. Ask a confident pupil the first Which question then ask a follow-up question: Why do you like …? Prompt the pupil to answer using Because I /we …
3. Ask other pupils to answer your questions. Then tell a pupil to ask me about my favourite season and the reason for me like it.
Practice
1. Show Transparency. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette.
2. Ask the pupils to look at the second picture. Divide the class into two large groups and have each group role-play one of the characters. Remind the pupils that they can look back to the first page if necessary.
3. Go over the conversation with the whole class.
B2. Which festivals do they like? Look, write and say.
Presentation
1. Write on the board the names of the months with festivals in them and ask the pupils to tell me when the festivals are. Ask the pupils Which season is it?
2. Ask individual pupils Which is your favourite festival? When is it?
Practice
1. Show Transparency. Read the conversation and ask the pupils to complete the conversation.
2. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and ask the pupils to listen to the conversation once more and fill in the blanks.
Homework
Recite B1 and B2.

The third period
Revision of B1 and B2.
The pupils talk about their favourite festivals.
B3. Which festivals do they like? Listen and write numbers.
1. Tell the pupils to be ready to write the numbers of the conversations next to the correct pictures. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Play it again and ask the pupils to listen to the conversations once more and write numbers.
2. Check the answers with the pupils.
C. Halloween.
1. Bring in a spooky costume, a plastic pumpkin and a sweet for each pupil.
2. Put on the spooky costume. Get the pupils to say to me Trick or treat? Answer Treat and give each one who asks correctly a sweet.
3. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette for the pupils.
4. Ask the pupils to tell me what they do at Halloween.
D. Read C again. Write short answers.
1. Ask the pupils to read the passage again. Tell them to read the questions and then to check back with the passage.
2. Ask the pupils to write short answers to the questions.
3. Check the answers with the pupils.

The fourth period
Revision
The pupils recite part C together.
E. Say the sound and the words.
1. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and ask the pupils to listen to the sound and the words.
2. Say the words slowly and clearly. Check that the pupils are saying the sound correctly.
3. Point to the pictures and check that the pupils can say the words without my model.
4. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette again. Ask the pupils to listen to and say the poem.
5. Ask them to listen to the four words at the bottom of the page and to circle the words with the same letters and sound. Get the pupils to repeat the poem.
F. Write a riddle about your favourite festival.
The pupils write riddles about their favourite festivals as shown in their books. Ask them to read their riddles to a friend. They should guess their friend’s favourite festival.
G. Listen, number and chant.
1. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette for the pupils to listen to the chant.
2. Play the cassette again and encourage the pupils to join in with the words.
3. Ask the pupils to number the verses according to the pictures they see.
H. Think about it!
Remind the pupils how to say the years in English, e.g. Two thousand and four. Also show the pupils how to say the numbers for the previous decade, i.e. Nineteen ninety-six. The pupils work out the animal for 2012 by counting round the animal pictures to 2012.

Tell the pupils to look at the pictures and read the words. Then ask the pupils to write the dialogues by choosing the correct words in the boxes.
