Unit1 Our Birthdays (A-1)
Teaching Objectives:
1, Students learn some new words and sentences
2, Students can understand the dialogue and the story, and use the sentences in their daily life
3, Let students realize the importance of knowing their loved ones' birthdays and sending birthdays wishes
Analysis of the Teaching Material:
Key points: When's Grandma's birthday? It's in September.

2, To learn to read ordinal numbers and to know what they mean

Teaching methods:

Unit 1 Our Birthdays (A-1)
Warm up:
1, Greetings

Hello! Nice to meet you. What's your name? How are you? What time is it? What's this? What's that? How many pencils are there in your pencil-case? There are....
(Review the knowledge we have learned and at the same time lead out the new sentence structures and topic)
Presentation:
1, Teach them how to use "there be" structure
2, (Point to a birthday calendar)Ask students: What's this? It is a ...
Lead them to speak it in English, then teach them how to read "calendar", which is taught by the way of listening, spelling, reading and playing a game, then find students to answer the question
3, (Point to the months on the birthday calendar)Ask students: What are these? These are....
Teach them to say "month", which is taught by the way of comparing the same pronuciation with other words and playing a puzzle
4,(Point to the months)Ask them: How many months are there?
Lead them to say: There are 12 months.
5, After repeating the sentence several times, ask them how many months there are. It would be very hard for them to answer.
6, Play CD and let them find the answer. The answer will be left for next class.
Practise:
1, Lead them into part A: Tell them Pat is making a birthday calendar. Koko is talking to her. Listen and tell me what they are talking about.
2, Listen again.
3, let students answer the question. Don't stop playing CD untill they can answer the question.
4, Listen and read after CD.
5, Read after me.
6, Group reading.
7, Role play
Homework:
1, Copy two words we have learned for one line each: calendar & month
2, Listen and read part A for three times

Postscript:
1, Most of the students have some difficulties to talk freely, because they forget a lot. Knowledge we have learned before should be reviewed.
2, Some students from Class 3, Grade 4 have some bad habits during the lesson. Some measures should be taken.
Unit 1 Our Birthdays (A-2)


Warm up:
1, Greetings
2, Free talk
Hello! Nice to see you. How are you? What day is it? What's that? It is a birthday calendar. What are these? They are months. How many months are there? There are 12 months.
What are they? They are....
(Review the knowledge we have learned and at the same time lead out topic we will learn today)
Presentation:
1, (Point to months on the birthday calendar) What are they?
2, Let them try to say them out one by one. First spell and read the consonants and then vowels. These words (12 months) can be taught by the way of listening, spelling, reading and playing some games, comparing words and find out the similarities between words, using the words in sentences, etc.
3, After learning how to read the words, students will read through all the 12 words, to answer the question: What are they?
4, I will ask some students to answer the question individually to see whether they are really familiar with the month-words.
Practise:
1, Lead them into part A: Koko and Pat are talking about birthday calendar and months. Now let's listen to CD and see how many months there are and what they are.
2, Listen again.
3, Before answering the question, students will be allowed to have some time to digest things we have learned and consolidate by talking with their partners.
4, let students answer the question. Don't stop playing CD untill most of the students can answer the question.
6,Group work: Which month do you like most? Why?

1, Listen and read part A several times until you can recite it
2, Daily report for next class: Which month do you like most? Why?


Postscript:
1, Some of the students still have some difficulties to read the new words correctly. Chech next class.
2, One knowledge point should be emphasized: The first letters of the 12 month words should be capitalized. Otherwise, they will be easily make mistakes on that.

Warm up:

1, Greetings

2, Free talk

How are you? What day is it today? What's the weather like today?

3, Daily report

Presentation:

1, Lead students to say hello to Tim and his mother

2, Tell students that Tim is talking with his mother. Give them time to talk with their partners and guess what they are talking about.

3, Play CD and see what they are talking about.

4, Students answer this question.

5, Another question will be set after the last one: What is Tim going to do for his Grandma's birthday?

6, Listen and anwer the question.

7, Listen and read after the CD.

Practise:

1, (Books open)Read after me.

2, Pair work to read the conversation correctly.

3, Let certain group students read.

4, Introduce some other people from the following part of B1, and let students make a dialogue according to the conversation we've learned.

5, Let them perform in front.

Postscript:

1, Students are confused by the knowledge of " 's" and " is". I should tell them differences between them by citing some examples.

2, The usage of preposision "in" should be emphasised.

4, Let students prepare for acting part A & B1

When is Tim's Grandma's birthday?
When is your birthday?
(Review the knowledge we have learned and at the same time lead out the new sentence structures and topic)
Presentation:
1, When is your birthday? Is your birthday in / on.....?
(Explain the differences between "in" and "on")
Teach these sentences by asking and answering
2, Ask the date of their birthdays, and lead them to say out the date. Then we will encouter the situation to use ordinal numbers.
3, Teach ordinal numbers by listening, reading and comparing.
4, Ask and answer: When is your birthday? My birthday is....
When is his/ her birthday? His/ Her birthday is ....
Then learn to use ordinal numbers.
Practise:
1, Read after CD.
2, (Books open) Read after me.
3, Let them read and practise with partners.
4, Read the ordinal numbers together and find some students to read.
5, Listen to Part B3 and do the exercises.

Postscript:
1, It's a little hard for them to pronounce some ordinal number words, such as, first, second, fifth, etc, which should be practised more.
2, Pay attention to some students' listening habit.
2, Some students from Class 3, Grade 4 have some bad habits during the lesson. Some measures should be taken.

Do you like this song? When is your birthday? How old are you? What are you doing?
What's he/ she doing?
What day is it today? / What's the date today? / What's the weather like today? (Write these 3 informations on the board)
(Review the knowledge we have learned and at the same time lead out some talks we will learn today)
Presentation:
1, Ask students: When is your bithday? Then lead out a sentence structure when somebody say: It's in September.
2, Teach the new sentence structure: Your birthday is this month./ It's this month.
3, Introduce Harry to students.
4, Tell students he is talking with someone. Let them guess who might be?
5, Play CD and figure out who that person is.
6, After Great-granda been introduced, I will set another two question and let them anser after listening it again. The questions are: How old is Harry? How old is his Great-grandpa?
7, Play CD again.
8, Students answer. If students feel a little hard to answer, they are ok to open their books and find the answers.
9, After answering questions, they are required to answer another three questions, which are: When is Great-grandpa's birthday? What's Susan doing? What's Linda doing?
10, Students read the books silently and anser the questions.
11, Listen to read after it.

3, Group work and role play.

1, Listen and read part C several times. Act it in front of us the next day.

Understanding of some sentences

Warm up:

Presentation:
1, Look and write the correct months. Then answer the questions.
Call certain student to read the given words, then let them do the word puzzle. After 2 minutes, check the answers. Then call two students to ask and answer the questions.
2, What are their birthdays? Listen and write the months.
Call certain student to read the given words, then introduce the kids to students, after that listen to CD and figure out their birthdays.
3, Listen and circle the correct days.
Students first read the questions, and they will listen to CD, then circle the correct ones.
4, Listen and circle the words with the same sound and the same letters.
Teach them to delete the words which aren't qualified and listen and choose the correct words.
5, Look and write the words.
Let students look at he pictures carefully and tell me what they are talking about. Then fill the blank according to the pictures.
6, Read and write. Complete the dialogues.
Let students read the given sentences one by one. Then fill the blanks according to the dialogue and picture.
7, Read and write. Complete the dialogue.
Introduce the prepositions and interrogatives, then use them in sentences.
Homework:
1, Recite Part C.
2, Complete the test.

Postscript:
1, It's hard for students to follow and understand the months and dates from dialogues. It means they are not familiar with those words. A lot of practises are needed.
