I.Teaching goals
1. Knowledge goals:
Key vocabulary: go hiking, how long, get back, send a postcard,
Target language: What are you doing for vacation?
I’m going to Tibet for a week.
What is he doing for vacation?
He is going to his cousin’s house.
How long are you staying?
For four days.
How long is he staying?
He’s staying for a week.
2. Ability goal:
1) Get the students to master how to talk about future plans;
2) Get the students to master how to make vacation plans.
3. Emotion goal :
To get the students to love the nature and have the habit to make plans for the future

VI.Teaching Procedures
Step I Greeting:
Greet the students :Hello, everybody. Nice to meet you .My name is Gao Meiling .I’m from Qingtongxia Daba Electrical Power Plant Middle school.This is my first lesson for you .It’s my pleasure to be here.Next, we’ll begin our class.Today we’re going on studying Unit 3.
Step II Presentation:
Show a picture of National Day. Ask the students to guess what the day is and think about what they are doing for vacation. Ask students to read the five phrases. The phases are babysitting , going camping , visiting my grandmother and going shopping.
T:Look at these students. Are they happy? Do you want to know what they are doing for vacation?Please look at the first picture.Is she happy?
Ss:No, she isn’t.
T:What is she doing for vacation?
(Help the Ss):She is babysitting her little sister.
Get the students to ask each other when showing four pictaures on the screen.Do this for all the five pictures.
After the conversation, ask the students :Do you want to know what Miss Gao is doing for vacation?The students say:Yes. So ask them to listen to a song and guess .They will hear a song from Han Hong.
Step III Presentation:
The students listen and can guess what the place I’m going.If there is and difficulty, the teacher will help them .
T: Can you guess what I am doing for vacation?( Show a picture of Tibet women.)
Ss:You are going to Tibet for vacation.
T: Yes, quite right. I’ll show you another two pictures about Tibet.Do you want to go there to spend your vacation?
Ss:Yes,we do.
T: Class, I have a friend.His name is Lin Hui. He wants to go to Tibet too. He thinks it is a very mysterious place.
Say to the students: Lin Hui has a friend. His name is Tony. He wants to go somewhere interesting for vacation.Where is he going ?What is he doing for vacation?Please look at the big screen. You will see some pictures.
Now show the students some pictures about Hong Kong.Give them some hints if they don’t know that place.Show the main sentences on the big screen and get the students to repeat after the teacher. Ask some students to read in pairs.
T: We have known what they are doing for vacation .But we don’t know how long they are staying there. Because my birthday is coming, and I want to invite them to my birthday party.So please listen to their conversation and find the answer.
Step IV Listening:
Before listening , the students will read some questions first .The questions are on the big screen.
T:Please listen to the tape carefully and find the answers.
Play the recorder for twice. Ask them to answer the question.And finish the chart on the textbook.Listen again and check the answer. Then check the answers.
Get the students to read the dialogue after the teacher. Explain the main points to the students . The points are on the big screen.
Get the students to read the dialogue together.And then give them some minutes to read in pairs. Act out in pairs for the class.
Step V Practice:
Show some information on the big screen.
T: Class,I have many friends .They all want to go somewhere to spend their vacation. Look at the information.
Tell them how to make conversations . Call attention to the days .
The students read the example .
Now work in pairs. Ask and answer questions about the students’ vacation. Then change roles.
As students work, move around the classroom, offering language support if needed.Then Ask pairs of students to present their conversations to the class. If they have done well, the teacher should give them some prize.
Step VII A Task and a game:
The teacher divide the students into six parts. Each part will be given a piece of paper.
T: On this piece of paper You can write your vacation plan. You can discuss the beautiful places you are going and the month you are starting and the days you are staying. I’ll show you some nice places for you on the big screen .You can choose one place. If your group win , your group can ask the other groups to sing or dance for you.OK?
If there is a project ,show the answers to the whole class all the vacation plans.
Summary
Get the students to make summary. Then help them to say that during this class we’ve reviewed the Present Continous Tense indicates the meaning of the future and learnt these sentences and word on the big screen. Read them together.
Step VII Homework
After class, ask classmates to write about the vacation plan .
